Then Peter and John placed their hands on the Samaritans, ¹  and they received the Holy Spirit. ² 

And the Holy Spirit also witnesses to us, for after saying, ¹ 

The dead do not come back to life, the spirits of the dead do not rise. ¹  That is because ²  you came in judgment ³  and destroyed them, you wiped out all memory of them.

These people, as well as the Anakites, are also considered Rephaites; ¹  the Moabites call them Emites.

Who ¹  will contend with me? If anyone can, I will be silent and die. ² 

But man ¹  dies and is powerless; ²  he expires – and where is he? ³ 

he lived in ruined towns ¹  and in houses where ²  no one lives, where they are ready to crumble into heaps. ³ 

Do you accomplish amazing things for the dead? Do the departed spirits ¹  rise up and give you thanks? (Selah)

My heart is parched ¹  and withered like grass, for I am unable ²  to eat food. ³ 

Babylon will become a heap of ruins. Jackals will make their home there. ¹  It will become an object of horror and of hissing scorn, a place where no one lives. ² 

and rejected Esau. ¹  I turned Esau’s ²  mountains into a deserted wasteland ³  and gave his territory ⁴  to the wild jackals.”

Then Jesus cried out again with a loud voice and gave up his spirit.

I baptize you with water, but he will baptize you with the Holy Spirit.”

Then ¹  Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan River ²  and was led by the Spirit ³  in ⁴  the wilderness, ⁵ 

for the Holy Spirit will teach you at that moment ¹  what you must say.” ² 

And after he said this, he breathed on them and said, ¹  “Receive the Holy Spirit. ² 

For ¹  John baptized with water, but you ²  will be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now.”

Then Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, ¹  replied, ²  “Rulers of the people and elders, ³ 

While Peter was still speaking these words, the Holy Spirit fell on ¹  all those who heard the message. ² 

Then as I began to speak, the Holy Spirit fell on ¹  them just as he did ²  on us at the beginning. ³
