The lips of the wise spread ¹  knowledge, but not so the heart of fools. ² 

Even when a fool walks along the road he lacks sense, ¹  and shows ²  everyone what a fool he is. ³ 

The one who associates ¹  with the wise grows wise, but a companion of fools suffers harm. ² 

A rebuke makes a greater impression on ¹  a discerning person than a hundred blows on a fool. ² 

Wisdom is unattainable ¹  for a fool; in court ²  he does not open his mouth. ³ 

Do not answer a fool according to his folly, ¹  lest you yourself also be like him. ² 

Like an archer who wounds at random, ¹  so is the one who hires ²  a fool or hires any passer-by.

For like the crackling of quick-burning thorns ¹  under a cooking pot, so is the laughter of the fool. This kind of folly ²  also is useless. ³ 

For the wise man, like ¹  the fool, will not be remembered for very long, ²  because ³  in the days to come, both will already have been forgotten. ⁴  Alas, ⁵  the wise man dies – just like ⁶  the fool!

Fearing the Lord ¹  is the beginning ²  of moral knowledge, ³  but ⁴  fools ⁵  despise ⁶  wisdom and instruction. ⁷ 

The one who conceals hatred utters lies, ¹  and the one who spreads ²  slander ³  is certainly ⁴  a fool.

The way of a fool ¹  is right ²  in his own opinion, ³  but the one who listens to advice is wise. ⁴ 

Every shrewd ¹  person acts with knowledge, but a fool displays ²  his folly.

A desire fulfilled is sweet to the soul, but fools abhor ¹  turning away from evil.

The wisdom of the shrewd person ¹  is to discern ²  his way, but the folly of fools is deception. ³ 

Fools mock ¹  at reparation, ²  but among the upright there is favor. ³ 

A wise person is cautious ¹  and turns from evil, but a fool throws off restraint ²  and is overconfident. ³ 

Wisdom rests in the heart of the discerning; it is known ¹  even in the heart ²  of fools.

The tongue of the wise ¹  treats knowledge correctly, ²  but the mouth of the fool spouts out ³  folly.

The discerning heart seeks knowledge, but the mouth of fools feeds on folly. ¹
