I have concluded ¹  that there is nothing better for people ²  than ³  to be happy and to enjoy themselves ⁴  as long as they live,

When Paul ¹  had been summoned, Tertullus began to accuse him, ²  saying, “We have experienced a lengthy time ³  of peace through your rule, ⁴  and reforms ⁵  are being made in this nation ⁶  through your foresight. ⁷ 

But the oppressed will possess the land and enjoy great prosperity. ¹ 

I have seen personally what is the only beneficial and appropriate course of action for people: ¹  to eat and drink, ²  and find enjoyment in all their ³  hard work ⁴  on earth ⁵  during the few days of their life which God has given them, for this is their reward. ⁶ 

So I recommend the enjoyment of life, ¹  for there is nothing better on earth ²  for a person to do ³  except ⁴  to eat, drink, and enjoy ⁵  life. ⁶  So ⁷  joy ⁸  will accompany him in his toil during the days of his life which God gives him on earth. ⁹ 

and elaborate greetings ¹  in the marketplaces, and to have people call them ‘Rabbi.’

But I will bring in your little ones, whom you said would become victims of war, ¹  and they will enjoy ²  the land that you have despised.

“So today we are slaves! In the very land you gave to our ancestors to eat its fruit and to enjoy ¹  its good things – we are slaves!

So I perceived there is nothing better than for people ¹  to enjoy their work, ²  because that is their ³  reward; for who can show them what the future holds? ⁴ 

I brought you ¹  into a fertile land so you could enjoy ²  its fruits and its rich bounty. But when you entered my land, you defiled it; ³  you made the land I call my own ⁴  loathsome to me.

Enjoy ¹  life with your beloved wife ²  during all the days of your fleeting ³  life that God ⁴  has given you on earth ⁵  during all your fleeting days; ⁶  for that is your reward in life and in your burdensome work ⁷  on earth. ⁸ 

Whoever makes anything like it, to use as perfume, ¹  will be cut off from his people.”

You will bear sons and daughters but not keep them, because they will be taken into captivity.

Trust in the Lord and do what is right! Settle in the land and maintain your integrity! ¹ 

We would share personal thoughts with each other; ¹  in God’s temple we would walk together among the crowd.

Let the nations thank you, O God! Let all the nations thank you! ¹ 

Let the nations thank you, O God! Let all the nations thank you! ¹ 

You ¹  will eat what you worked so hard to grow. ²  You will be blessed and secure. ³ 

and that you might see ¹  your grandchildren. ²  May Israel experience peace! ³ 

When ¹  you lie down you will not be filled with fear; ²  when ³  you lie down your sleep will be pleasant. ⁴
