So all ¹  the people broke off the gold earrings that were on their ears and brought them to Aaron.

Terrifying sounds fill ¹  his ears; in a time of peace marauders ²  attack him.

O Lord, listen to me! ¹  Pay attention to ²  my plea for mercy!

You see ¹  many things, but don’t comprehend; ²  their ears are open, but do not hear.”

And immediately the man’s ¹  ears were opened, his tongue loosened, and he spoke plainly.

But to this very day the Lord has not given you an understanding mind, perceptive eyes, or discerning ears! ¹ 

and ears, but cannot hear. Indeed, they cannot breathe. ¹ 

Like one who grabs a wild dog by the ears, ¹  so is the person passing by who becomes furious ²  over a quarrel not his own.

Tell them: ‘Hear this, you foolish people who have no understanding, who have eyes but do not discern, who have ears but do not perceive: ¹ 

After Jesus ¹  took him aside privately, away from the crowd, he put his fingers in the man’s ²  ears, and after spitting, he touched his tongue. ³ 

Now I will be attentive and responsive to the prayers offered in this place. ¹ 

The one who shuts his ears ¹  to the cry ²  of the poor, he too will cry out and will not be answered. ³ 

Eyes ¹  will no longer be blind ²  and ears ³  will be attentive.

I gloat in triumph over those who tried to ambush me; ¹  I hear the defeated cries of the evil foes who attacked me. ² 

“You stubborn ¹  people, with uncircumcised ²  hearts and ears! ³  You are always resisting the Holy Spirit, like your ancestors ⁴  did!

For the eyes of the Lord are ¹  upon the righteous and his ears are open to their prayer. But the Lord’s face is against those who do evil. ² 

The thin heads of grain swallowed up the seven good heads of grain. So I told all this ¹  to the diviner-priests, but no one could tell me its meaning.” ² 

I also saw in my dream ¹  seven heads of grain growing on one stalk, full and good.

Then ¹  seven heads of grain, withered and thin and burned with the east wind, were sprouting up after them.

For you are bringing some surprising things ¹  to our ears, so we want to know what they ²  mean.”
