In times of prosperity ¹  be joyful, but in times of adversity ²  consider this: God has made one as well as the other, ³  so that no one can discover what the future holds. ⁴ 

I discovered this: ¹  More bitter than death is the kind of ²  woman ³  who is like a hunter’s snare; ⁴  her heart is like a hunter’s net and her hands are like prison chains. The man who pleases God escapes her, but the sinner is captured by her.

“For inquire now of the former ¹  generation, and pay attention ²  to the findings ³  of their ancestors; ⁴ 

For ¹  it has been hidden from the eyes of every living creature, and from the birds of the sky it has been concealed.

Look, we heard about it ¹  in Ephrathah, ²  we found it in the territory of Jaar. ³

They discovered written in the law that the LORD had commanded through ¹  Moses that the Israelites should live in temporary shelters during the festival of the seventh month,

This alone have I discovered: God made humankind upright, but they have sought many evil schemes.

When she lustfully exposed her nakedness, ¹  I ²  was disgusted with her, just as I ³  had been disgusted with her sister.

Later Reuben returned to the cistern to find that Joseph was not in it! ¹  He tore his clothes,

“No,” he insisted, “but you have come to see if our land is vulnerable.” ¹ 

And you must not go up by steps to my altar, so that your nakedness is not exposed.’ ¹
