He got up on the bed and spread his body out over ¹  the boy; he put his mouth on the boy’s ²  mouth, his eyes over the boy’s eyes, and the palms of his hands against the boy’s palms. He bent down over him, and the boy’s skin ³  grew warm.

He stretched out over the boy three times and called out to the Lord, “O Lord, my God, please let this boy’s breath return to him.”

And they began making fun of him. ¹  But he put them all outside ²  and he took the child’s father and mother and his own companions ³  and went into the room where the child was. ⁴ 

He went ¹  to be registered with Mary, who was promised in marriage to him, ²  and who was expecting a child.

The boy grew and one day he went out to see his father who was with the harvest workers. ¹ 

So ¹  he got up and took the child and his mother and returned to the land of Israel.

And whoever welcomes ¹  a child like this in my name welcomes me.

“You must not afflict ¹  any widow or orphan.

His servants said to him, “What is this that you have done? While ¹  the child was still alive, you fasted and wept. Once the child was dead you got up and ate food!”

Now Gehazi went on ahead of them. He placed the staff on the child’s face, but there was no sound or response. When he came back to Elisha ¹  he told him, “The child did not wake up.”

The child grew and was weaned. Abraham prepared ¹  a great feast on the day that Isaac was weaned. ² 

Naomi took the child and placed him on her lap; ¹  she became his caregiver. ² 

I prayed for this boy, and the Lord has given me the request that I asked of him.

The king then said, “Cut the living child in two, and give half to one and half to the other!”

The Lord answered Elijah’s prayer; the boy’s breath returned to him and he lived.

then his flesh is restored ¹  like a youth’s; he returns to the days of his youthful vigor. ² 

When Israel was a young man, I loved him like a son, ¹  and I summoned my son ²  out of Egypt.

But Jesus ¹  gently took her by the hand and said, ²  “Child, get up.”

Pharaoh’s daughter said to her, “Take this child ¹  and nurse him for me, and I will pay your ²  wages.” So the woman took the child and nursed him.

When the water in the skin was gone, she shoved ¹  the child under one of the shrubs.
