Six days you will gather it, but on the seventh day, the Sabbath, there will not be any.”

“‘You must keep my Sabbaths and fear my sanctuary. I am the Lord.

You must keep my Sabbaths and reverence ¹  my sanctuary. I am the Lord.

When the Israelites were ¹  in the wilderness they found a man gathering wood on the Sabbath day. ² 

This is the burnt offering for every Sabbath, ¹  besides the continual burnt offering and its drink offering.

Be careful to observe ¹  the Sabbath day just as the Lord your God has commanded you.

Some of the Kohathites, their relatives, were in charge of preparing the bread that is displayed each Sabbath.

So I registered a complaint with the nobles of Judah, saying to them, “What is this evil thing that you are doing, profaning the Sabbath day?

You have despised my holy things and desecrated my Sabbaths!

Moreover, they have done this to me: In the very same day ¹  they desecrated my sanctuary and profaned my Sabbaths.

The people of the land will bow down at the entrance of that gate before the Lord on the Sabbaths and on the new moons.

Then ¹  they went to Capernaum. ²  When the Sabbath came, ³  Jesus ⁴  went into the synagogue ⁵  and began to teach.

So ¹  the Pharisees ²  said to him, “Look, why are they doing what is against the law on the Sabbath?”

Now ¹  when evening had already come, since it was the day of preparation (that is, the day before the Sabbath), ² 

So ¹  he went down to Capernaum, ²  a town ³  in Galilee, and on the Sabbath he began to teach the people. ⁴ 

But some of the Pharisees ¹  said, “Why are you ²  doing what is against the law ³  on the Sabbath?”

On ¹  another Sabbath, Jesus ²  entered the synagogue ³  and was teaching. Now ⁴  a man was there whose right hand was withered. ⁵ 

So ¹  Jesus asked ²  the experts in religious law ³  and the Pharisees, “Is it lawful to heal on the Sabbath ⁴  or not?”

Then ¹  they returned and prepared aromatic spices ²  and perfumes. ³  On the Sabbath they rested according to the commandment. ⁴ 

Now because Jesus was doing these things ¹  on the Sabbath, the Jewish leaders ²  began persecuting ³  him.
