and Oholibamah bore Jeush, Jalam, and Korah. These were the sons of Esau who were born to him in the land of Canaan.

Now Jacob cooked some stew, ¹  and when Esau came in from the open fields, he was famished.

“Look,” said Esau, “I’m about to die! What use is the birthright to me?” ¹ 

Then he asked, “Are you really my son Esau?” “I am,” Jacob ¹  replied.

Then Esau realized ¹  that the Canaanite women ²  were displeasing to ³  his father Isaac.

Jacob sent messengers on ahead ¹  to his brother Esau in the land of Seir, the region ²  of Edom.

“If Esau attacks one camp,” ¹  he thought, ²  “then the other camp will be able to escape.” ³ 

Jacob ¹  stayed there that night. Then he sent ²  as a gift ³  to his brother Esau

But Esau ran to meet him, embraced him, hugged his neck, and kissed him. Then they both wept.

But Esau said, “I have plenty, my brother. Keep what belongs to you.”

These were the sons of Reuel: Nahath, Zerah, Shammah, and Mizzah. These were the sons ¹  of Esau’s wife Basemath.

These were the names of the chiefs of Esau, according to their families, according to their places, by their names: chief Timna, chief Alvah, chief Jetheth,

When Rebekah heard what her older son Esau had said, ¹  she quickly summoned ²  her younger son Jacob and told him, “Look, your brother Esau is planning to get revenge by killing you. ³ 

These were the sons of Esau’s son Reuel: chief Nahath, chief Zerah, chief Shammah, chief Mizzah. These were the chiefs descended from Reuel in the land of Edom; these were the sons ¹  of Esau’s wife Basemath.

Esau said to his father, “Do you have only that one blessing, my father? Bless me too!” ¹  Then Esau wept loudly. ² 

The descendants of Jacob will be a fire, and the descendants of Joseph a flame. The descendants of Esau will be like stubble. They will burn them up and devour them. There will not be a single survivor ¹  of the descendants of Esau!” Indeed, the Lord has spoken it.

How the people of Esau ¹  will be thoroughly plundered! ²  Their ³  hidden valuables will be ransacked! ⁴ 

Your warriors will be shattered, O Teman, ¹  so that ²  everyone ³  will be destroyed ⁴  from Esau’s mountain!

Then Esau ¹  said, “Let’s be on our way! ²  I will go in front of you.”

So Esau hated ¹  Jacob because of the blessing his father had given to his brother. ²  Esau said privately, ³  “The time ⁴  of mourning for my father is near; then I will kill ⁵  my brother Jacob!”
