For everything that was written in former times was written for our instruction, so that through endurance and through encouragement of the scriptures we may have hope.

Therefore, if there is any encouragement in Christ, any comfort provided by love, any fellowship in the Spirit, ¹  any affection or mercy, ² 

We ¹  sent Timothy, our brother and fellow worker for God ²  in the gospel of Christ, to strengthen you and encourage you about your faith,

And we urge you, brothers and sisters, ¹  admonish the undisciplined, comfort the discouraged, help the weak, be patient toward all.

not abandoning our own meetings, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging each other, and even more so because you see the day ¹  drawing near. ² 

Encourage younger men likewise to be self-controlled, ¹

Anxiety ¹  in a person’s heart ²  weighs him down, ³  but an encouraging ⁴  word brings him joy. ⁵ 

encourage your hearts and strengthen you ¹  in every good thing you do or say. ²
