He inquired of Arioch the king’s deputy, “Why is the decree from the king so urgent?” ¹  Then Arioch informed Daniel about the matter.

Then the Lord said to Hosea, ¹  “Name him ‘Jezreel,’ because in a little while I will punish ²  the dynasty ³  of Jehu on account of the bloodshed ⁴  in the valley of Jezreel, ⁵  and I will put an end to the kingdom ⁶  of Israel. ⁷ 

They do not realize ¹  that I remember all of their wicked deeds. Their evil deeds have now surrounded them; their sinful deeds are always before me. ² 

But Ephraim bitterly ¹  provoked him to anger; so he will hold him accountable for the blood he has shed, ²  his Lord ³  will repay him for the contempt he has shown. ⁴ 

Wake up, you drunkards, ¹  and weep! Wail, all you wine drinkers, ²  because the sweet wine ³  has been taken away ⁴  from you. ⁵ 

Listen, you Israelites, to this message which the Lord is proclaiming against ¹  you! This message is for the entire clan I brought up ²  from the land of Egypt:

“Therefore, on that day each prophet will be ashamed of his vision when he prophesies and will no longer wear the hairy garment ¹  of a prophet to deceive the people. ² 

“But you are profaning it by saying that the table of the Lord is common and its offerings ¹  despicable.

Then I will stop the plague ¹  from ruining your crops, ²  and the vine will not lose its fruit before harvest,” says the Lord who rules over all.

The ¹  herdsmen ran off, went into the town, ²  and told everything that had happened to the demon-possessed men.

And you will be brought before governors and kings ¹  because of me, as a witness to them and the Gentiles.

Whoever finds his life ¹  will lose it, ²  and whoever loses his life because of me ³  will find it.

He answered them, ¹  “And why do you disobey the commandment of God because of your tradition?

he does not need to honor his father.’ ¹  You have nullified the word of God on account of your tradition.

For the Son of Man will come with his angels in the glory of his Father, and then he will reward each person according to what he has done. ¹ 

Woe to the world because of stumbling blocks! It ¹  is necessary that stumbling blocks come, but woe to the person through whom they come.

And if those days had not been cut short, no one would be saved. But for the sake of the elect those days will be cut short.

Then Jesus said to them, “This night you will all fall away because of me, for it is written: ‘I will strike the shepherd, and the sheep of the flock will be scattered.’ ¹ 

So they took the money and did as they were instructed. And this story is told among the Jews to this day. ¹ 

Now ¹  the herdsmen ran off and spread the news in the town and countryside, and the people went out to see what had happened.
