Now Gideon sent messengers throughout the Ephraimite hill country who announced, “Go down and head off the Midianites. ¹  Take control of the fords of the streams ²  all the way to Beth Barah and the Jordan River.” ³  When all the Ephraimites had assembled, ⁴  they took control of the fords ⁵  all the way to Beth Barah and the Jordan River.

Foreigners from the most terrifying nations have cut it down and left it to lie there on the mountains. In all the valleys its branches have fallen, and its boughs lie broken in the ravines of the land. All the peoples of the land ¹  have departed ²  from its shade and left it.

therefore, O mountains of Israel, hear the word of the sovereign Lord: This is what the sovereign Lord says to the mountains and hills, the ravines and valleys, and to the desolate ruins and the abandoned cities that have become prey and an object of derision to the rest of the nations round about –

Then the Lord rained down ¹  sulfur and fire ²  on Sodom and Gomorrah. It was sent down from the sky by the Lord. ³ 

The lean, bad-looking cows ate up the seven ¹  fat cows.

They camped by the Jordan, from Beth-jeshimoth as far as Abel-shittim in the plains of Moab.

The Lord spoke to Moses in the plains of Moab by the Jordan, across from Jericho. He said:

“Speak to the Israelites and tell them, ‘When you have crossed the Jordan into the land of Canaan,

There the border will turn from Azmon to the Brook of Egypt, and then its direction is to the sea. ¹ 

The two and a half tribes have received their inheritance on this side of the Jordan, east of Jericho, ¹  toward the sunrise.”

So it was in the Transjordan, in Moab, that Moses began to deliver these words: ¹ 

Instead, the land you are crossing the Jordan to occupy ¹  is one of hills and valleys, a land that drinks in water from the rains, ² 

Look! The ark of the covenant of the Ruler ¹  of the whole earth is ready to enter the Jordan ahead of you.

When the entire nation was on the other side, ¹  the Lord told Joshua,

Now Joshua set up in Gilgal the ¹  twelve stones they had taken from the Jordan.

It then crossed to Azmon, extended to the Stream of Egypt, ¹  and ended at the sea. This was their ²  southern border.

Manasseh was allotted ten shares of land, ¹  in addition to the land of Gilead and Bashan east of the Jordan,

Their border went up westward to Maralah and touched Dabbesheth and the valley near ¹  Jokneam.

Their border touched Tabor, Shahazumah, and Beth Shemesh, and ended at the Jordan. They had sixteen cities and their towns.

The king had them cast in earth foundries ¹  in the region of the Jordan between Succoth and Zarethan.
