The sound of battle comes from the city; the sound comes from the temple! It is the sound of the Lord paying back his enemies.

The young men of On and of Pi-beseth ¹  will die by the sword; and the cities will go ²  into captivity.

For though we live ¹  as human beings, ²  we do not wage war according to human standards, ³ 

Now who is the person who has conquered the world except the one who believes that ¹  Jesus is the Son of God?

Those who stay in this city will die in battle or of starvation or disease. Those who leave the city and surrender to the Babylonians who are besieging it will live. They will escape with their lives. ¹ 

Go ahead and ¹  charge into battle, you horsemen! Drive furiously, you charioteers! Let the soldiers march out into battle, those from Ethiopia and Libya who carry shields, and those from Lydia ²  who are armed with the bow. ³

Then he sent the pieces throughout the territory of Israel by the hand of messengers, who said, “Whoever does not go out after Saul and after Samuel should expect this to be done to his oxen!” Then the terror of the Lord fell on the people, and they went out as one army. ²
