But ¹  a suitable day ²  came, when Herod gave a banquet on his birthday for his court officials, military commanders, and leaders of Galilee.

Then ¹  the apostles gathered around Jesus and told him everything they had done and taught.

Now ¹  as Jesus ²  was starting out on his way, someone ran up to him, fell on his knees, and said, “Good teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?” ³ 

Then ¹  James and John, the sons of Zebedee, came to him and said, “Teacher, we want you to do for us whatever we ask.”

Then ¹  Jesus said to him, ²  “What do you want me to do for you?” The blind man replied, “Rabbi, ³  let me see again.” ⁴ 

If anyone says to you, ‘Why are you doing this?’ say, ‘The Lord needs it ¹  and will send it back here soon.’”

Jesus said to them, “I will ask you one question. Answer me and I will tell you by what authority I do these things:

What then will the owner of the vineyard do? He will come and destroy ¹  those tenants and give the vineyard to others. ² 

For you will always have the poor with you, and you can do good for them whenever you want. But you will not always have me! ¹ 

I tell you the truth, ¹  wherever the gospel is proclaimed in the whole world, what she has done will also be told in memory of her.”

Early in the morning, after forming a plan, the chief priests with the elders and the experts in the law ¹  and the whole Sanhedrin tied Jesus up, led him away, and handed him over to Pilate. ² 

So Pilate spoke to them again, ¹  “Then what do you want me to do ²  with the one you call king of the Jews?”

Because he wanted to satisfy the crowd, Pilate released Barabbas for them. Then, ¹  after he had Jesus flogged, ²  he handed him over ³  to be crucified.

Even now the ax is laid at the root of the trees, ¹  and every tree that does not produce good fruit will be ²  cut down and thrown into the fire.”

John ¹  answered them, ²  “The person who has two tunics ³  must share with the person who has none, and the person who has food must do likewise.”

But when John rebuked Herod ¹  the tetrarch ²  because of Herodias, his brother’s wife, ³  and because of all the evil deeds ⁴  that he had done,

Then ¹  Levi gave a great banquet ²  in his house for Jesus, ³  and there was a large crowd of tax collectors and others sitting ⁴  at the table with them.

So ¹  Jesus said to them, “You cannot make the wedding guests ²  fast while the bridegroom ³  is with them, can you? ⁴ 

Jesus ¹  answered them, ²  “Haven’t you read what David did when he and his companions were hungry –

After ¹  looking around ²  at them all, he said to the man, ³  “Stretch out your hand.” The man ⁴  did so, and his hand was restored. ⁵
