When the sun came up it was scorched, and because it did not have sufficient root, ¹  it withered.

These are the ones sown on rocky ground: As soon as they hear the word, they receive it with joy.

It is like a mustard seed ¹  that when sown in the ground, even though it is the smallest of all the seeds in the ground –

Other seed fell on rock, ¹  and when it came up, it withered because it had no moisture.

Other seed fell among the thorns, ¹  and they grew up with it and choked ²  it.

it is sown a natural body, it is raised a spiritual body. If there is a natural body, there is also a spiritual body.

But if it produces thorns and thistles, it is useless and about to be cursed; ¹  its fate is to be burned.

At the time ¹  of the wheat harvest Reuben went out and found some mandrake plants ²  in a field and brought them to his mother Leah. Rachel said to Leah, “Give me some of your son’s mandrakes.”

I will weep for the grapevines of Sibmah just like the town of Jazer weeps over them. ¹  Their branches once spread as far as the Dead Sea. ²  They reached as far as the town of Jazer. ³  The destroyer will ravage her fig, date, ⁴  and grape crops.

Lay siege to it! Build siege works against it. Erect a siege ramp ¹  against it! Post soldiers outside it ²  and station battering rams around it.

But leave its taproot ¹  in the ground, with a band of iron and bronze around it ²  surrounded by the grass of the field. Let it become damp with the dew of the sky, and let it live with ³  the animals in the grass of the land.

What the gazam-locust left the ‘arbeh-locust consumed, ¹  what the ‘arbeh-locust left the yeleq-locust consumed, and what the yeleq-locust left the hasil-locust consumed! ² 

The sovereign Lord showed me this: I saw ¹  him making locusts just as the crops planted late ²  were beginning to sprout. (The crops planted late sprout after the royal harvest. ³ )

‘for there will be a peaceful time of sowing, the vine will produce its fruit and the ground its yield, and the skies ¹  will rain down dew. Then I will allow the remnant of my people to possess all these things.
