who led them through the deep water? Like a horse running on flat land ¹  they did not stumble.

Listen to the cries of anguish of the leaders. Listen to the wails of the shepherds of the flocks. They are wailing because the Lord is about to destroy their lands. ¹ 

The land of Judah will be inhabited by people who live in its towns as well as by farmers and shepherds with their flocks. ¹ 

clothed in blue, governors and officials, all of them desirable young men, horsemen riding on horses.

In that day your ¹  beautiful young women ²  and your ³  young men will faint from thirst. ⁴ 

“Is it right for you to live in richly paneled houses ¹  while my temple is in ruins? ² 

I tell you the truth, ¹  you will never get out of there until you have paid the last penny! ² 

He then ¹  told them a parable: ²  “The land of a certain rich man produced ³  an abundant crop,

I tell you, you will never get out of there until you have paid the very last cent!” ¹ 

Then the disciples replied, ¹  “Lord, if he has fallen asleep, he will recover.”

For the law brings wrath, because where there is no law there is no transgression ¹  either.

And I was once alive apart from the law, but with the coming of the commandment sin became alive

If what someone has built survives, he will receive a reward.

I say this so that no one will deceive you through arguments ¹  that sound reasonable. ² 

This saying ¹  is trustworthy: “If someone aspires to the office of overseer, ²  he desires a good work.”

But avoid foolish controversies, genealogies, ¹  quarrels, and fights about the law, ²  because they are useless and empty.

Dear friend, ¹  you demonstrate faithfulness ²  by whatever you do for the brothers (even though they are strangers).

Then when the Lord your God brings you to the land he promised your ancestors Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob to give you – a land with large, fine cities you did not build,

One of his attendants replied, ¹  “I have seen a son of Jesse in Bethlehem ²  who knows how to play the lyre. He is a brave warrior ³  and is articulate ⁴  and handsome, ⁵  for the Lord is with him.”

With the timber the king made supports ¹  for the Lord’s temple and for the royal palace and stringed instruments ²  for the musicians. No one has seen so much of this fine timber to this very day. ³ )
