Now Makir married a wife from the Huppites and Shuppites. ¹  (His sister’s name was Maacah.) Zelophehad was Manasseh’s second son; ²  he had only daughters.

All these were the sons of Heman, the king’s prophet. God had promised him these sons in order to make him prestigious. ¹  God gave Heman fourteen sons and three daughters.

He later married Maacah the daughter of Absalom. She bore to him Abijah, Attai, Ziza, and Shelomith.

Then ¹  our sons will be like plants, that quickly grow to full size. ²  Our daughters will be like corner pillars, ³  carved like those in a palace. ⁴

Look all around you! ¹  They all gather and come to you – your sons come from far away and your daughters are escorted by guardians.

Moab, you are doomed! ¹  You people who worship Chemosh will be destroyed. Your sons will be taken away captive. Your daughters will be carried away into exile. ² 

“Whoever loves father or mother more than me is not worthy of me, and whoever loves son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me.

Then ¹  Jesus answered her, “Woman, ²  your faith is great! Let what you want be done for you.” And her daughter was healed from that hour.

He asked him urgently, “My little daughter is near death. Come and lay your hands on her so that she may be healed and live.”

He said to her, “Daughter, your faith has made you well. ¹  Go in peace, and be healed of your disease.”

While he was still speaking, people came from the synagogue ruler’s ¹  house saying, “Your daughter has died. Why trouble the teacher any longer?”
