Fast runners will find no place to hide; ¹  strong men will have no strength left; ²  warriors will not be able to save their lives.

You should not have stood at the fork in the road ¹  to slaughter ²  those trying to escape. ³  You should not have captured their refugees when they suffered adversity. ⁴ 

When my life ¹  was ebbing away, ²  I called out to ³  the Lord, and my prayer came to your holy temple. ⁴ 

Residents of Mareshah, ¹  a conqueror will attack you, ²  the leaders of Israel shall flee to Adullam. ³ 

I will transform the lame into the nucleus of a new nation, ¹  and those far off ²  into a mighty nation. The Lord will reign over them on Mount Zion, from that day forward and forevermore.” ³ 

Your shepherds ¹  are sleeping, O king of Assyria! Your officers ²  are slumbering! ³  Your people are scattered like sheep ⁴  on the mountains and there is no one to regather them!

Return to the stronghold, you prisoners, with hope; today I declare that I will return double what was taken from you.

Listen to the howling of shepherds, because their magnificence has been destroyed. Listen to the roaring of young lions, because the thickets of the Jordan have been devastated.

After assembling all the chief priests and experts in the law, ¹  he asked them where the Christ ²  was to be born.

Whoever finds his life ¹  will lose it, ²  and whoever loses his life because of me ³  will find it.

But when he saw the strong wind he became afraid. And starting to sink, he cried out, ¹  “Lord, save me!”

But he turned and said to Peter, “Get behind me, Satan! You are a stumbling block to me, because you are not setting your mind on God’s interests, but on man’s.” ¹ 

And if he finds it, I tell you the truth, ¹  he will rejoice more over it than over the ninety-nine that did not go astray.

When his family ¹  heard this they went out to restrain him, for they said, “He is out of his mind.”

Then ¹  he looked up ²  at his disciples and said: “Blessed ³  are you who are poor, ⁴  for the kingdom of God belongs ⁵  to you.

In the same way, I tell you, there is joy in the presence of God’s angels ¹  over one sinner who repents.”

Then ¹  he said to them, “What are these matters ²  you are discussing so intently ³  as you walk along?” And they stood still, looking sad.

Many of them were saying, “He is possessed by a demon and has lost his mind! ¹  Why do you listen to him?”

Thus the Pharisees ¹  said to one another, “You see that you can do nothing. Look, the world has run off after him!”

While Peter was still thinking seriously about ¹  the vision, the Spirit said to him, “Look! Three men are looking for you.
