For this is God’s will: that you become holy, ¹  that you keep away from sexual immorality,

But you, brothers and sisters, ¹  are not in the darkness for the day to overtake you like a thief would.

Now regarding the arrival ¹  of our Lord Jesus Christ and our being gathered to be with him, ²  we ask you, brothers and sisters, ³ 

He called you to this salvation ¹  through our gospel, so that you may possess the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ. ² 

But the Lord is faithful, and he ¹  will strengthen you and protect you from the evil one.

And we are confident about you in the Lord that you are both doing – and will do – what we are commanding.

Now I urge you, brothers and sisters, ¹  bear with my message of exhortation, for in fact I have written to you briefly.

You should know that ¹  our brother Timothy has been released. If he comes soon, he will be with me when I see you. ² 

Greetings to all your leaders and all the saints. Those from Italy send you greetings.

But you have dishonored the poor! ¹  Are not the rich oppressing you and dragging you into the courts?

You ought to say instead, ¹  “If the Lord is willing, then we will live and do this or that.”

Concerning this salvation, ¹  the prophets ²  who predicted the grace that would come to you ³  searched and investigated carefully.

Therefore, I intend to remind you constantly ¹  of these things even though you know them and are well established in the truth that you now have.

Indeed, as long as I am in this tabernacle, ¹  I consider it right to stir you up by way of a reminder,

Indeed, I will also make every effort that, after my departure, you have a testimony of these things. ¹ 

Since all these things are to melt away ¹  in this manner, ²  what sort of people must we ³  be, conducting our lives in holiness and godliness, ⁴ 

Little children, let no one deceive you: The one who practices righteousness ¹  is righteous, just as Jesus ²  is righteous.

Now to the one who is able to keep you from falling, ¹  and to cause you to stand, rejoicing, ²  without blemish ³  before his glorious presence, ⁴ 

Now as for you, the anointing ¹  that you received from him ²  resides ³  in you, and you have no need for anyone to teach you. But as his ⁴  anointing teaches you about all things, it is true and is not a lie. Just as ⁵  it ⁶  has taught you, you reside ⁷  in him.

“Blessed are you when people ¹  insult you and persecute you and say all kinds of evil things about you falsely ²  on account of me.
