Take your share of suffering ¹  as a good soldier of Christ Jesus.

Then the governor’s soldiers took Jesus into the governor’s residence ¹  and gathered the whole cohort ²  around him.

He ¹  immediately took ²  soldiers and centurions ³  and ran down to the crowd. ⁴  When they saw ⁵  the commanding officer ⁶  and the soldiers, they stopped beating ⁷  Paul.

After ¹  they had assembled with the elders and formed a plan, they gave a large sum of money to the soldiers,

The soldiers also mocked him, coming up and offering him sour wine, ¹ 

The soldiers ¹  braided ²  a crown of thorns ³  and put it on his head, and they clothed him in a purple robe. ⁴ 

So the soldiers came and broke the legs of the two men who had been crucified ¹  with Jesus, ²  first the one and then the other. ³ 

But one of the soldiers pierced ¹  his side with a spear, and blood and water ²  flowed out immediately.

When he came to the steps, Paul ¹  had to be carried ²  by the soldiers because of the violence ³  of the mob,

So the soldiers, in accordance with their orders, ¹  took ²  Paul and brought him to Antipatris ³  during the night.

Paul said to the centurion ¹  and the soldiers, “Unless these men stay with the ship, you ²  cannot be saved.”

Then the soldiers cut the ropes ¹  of the ship’s boat and let it drift away. ² 

Now the soldiers’ plan was to kill the prisoners ¹  so that none of them would escape by swimming away. ² 

At daybreak ¹  there was great consternation ²  among the soldiers over what had become of Peter.

Now when the soldiers crucified ¹  Jesus, they took his clothes and made four shares, one for each soldier, ²  and the tunic ³  remained. (Now the tunic ⁴  was seamless, woven from top to bottom as a single piece.) ⁵ 

to Apphia ¹  our sister, ²  to Archippus our ³  fellow soldier, and to the church that meets in your house.

So ¹  the soldiers led him into the palace (that is, the governor’s residence) ²  and called together the whole cohort. ³ 

No one in military service gets entangled in matters of everyday life; otherwise he will not please ¹  the one who recruited him.

When the angel who had spoken to him departed, Cornelius ¹  called two of his personal servants ²  and a devout soldier from among those who served him, ³ 

When we entered Rome, Paul was allowed to live ¹  by himself, with the soldier who was guarding him.
