A wicked and adulterous generation asks for a sign, but no sign will be given to it except the sign of Jonah.” Then ¹  he left them and went away.

“If ¹  they do not believe you or pay attention to ²  the former sign, then they may ³  believe the latter sign. ⁴ 

But he answered them, ¹  “An evil and adulterous generation asks for a sign, but no sign will be given to it except the sign of the prophet Jonah.

So King Darius issued the written interdict.

These curses ¹  will be a perpetual sign and wonder with reference to you and your descendants. ² 

They executed his miraculous signs among them, ¹  and his amazing deeds in the land of Ham.

For Jews demand miraculous signs and Greeks ask for wisdom,

As ¹  the crowds were increasing, Jesus ²  began to say, “This generation is a wicked generation; it looks for a sign, ³  but no sign will be given to it except the sign of Jonah. ⁴ 

That day he also announced ¹  a sign, “This is the sign the Lord has predetermined: ²  The altar will be split open and the ashes ³  on it will fall to the ground.” ⁴ 

For just as Jonah became a sign to the people of Nineveh, ¹  so the Son of Man will be a sign ²  to this generation. ³ 

Sighing deeply in his spirit he said, “Why does this generation look for a sign? I tell you the truth, ¹  no sign will be given to this generation.”

Indeed, the signs of an apostle were performed among you with great perseverance ¹  by signs and wonders and powerful deeds. ² 

I will put a division ¹  between my people and your people. This sign will take place ²  tomorrow.”’”

You will also take in your hand this staff, with which you will do the signs.” ¹ 

But I will harden ¹  Pharaoh’s heart, and although I will multiply ²  my signs and my wonders in the land of Egypt,

Your eyes have seen the great judgments, ¹  those signs and mighty wonders.

Isaiah replied, ¹  “This is your sign from the Lord confirming that the Lord will do what he has said:

“Tell us, when will these things ¹  happen? And what will be the sign that all these things are about to take place?”

These signs will accompany those who believe: In my name they will drive out demons; they will speak in new languages; ¹ 

Now Jesus performed ¹  many other miraculous signs in the presence of the ²  disciples, which are not recorded ³  in this book. ⁴
