They hauled out the sacred pillar of the temple of Baal and burned it.

You are to make this ¹  into ²  a sacred anointing oil, a perfumed compound, ³  the work of a perfumer. It will be sacred anointing oil.

They set up sacred pillars and Asherah poles on every high hill and under every green tree.

Blind fools! Which is greater, the gold or the temple that makes the gold sacred?

You are blind! For which is greater, the gift or the altar that makes the gift sacred?

Rather you must destroy their altars, smash their images, and cut down their Asherah poles. ¹ 

You must not erect a sacred pillar, ¹  a thing the Lord your God detests.

They demolished ¹  the sacred pillar of Baal and ²  the temple of Baal; it is used as ³  a latrine ⁴  to this very day.

Instead, this is what you must do to them: You must tear down their altars, shatter their sacred pillars, ¹  cut down their sacred Asherah poles, ²  and burn up their idols.

They even built for themselves high places, sacred pillars, and Asherah poles on every high hill and under every green tree.

He removed the pagan altars ¹  and the high places, smashed the sacred pillars, and cut down the Asherah poles. ² 

You must make holy garments ¹  for your brother Aaron, for glory and for beauty. ² 

“The holy garments that belong to Aaron are to belong to his sons after him, so that they may be anointed ¹  in them and consecrated ²  in them.

Every offering ¹  of all the Israelites’ holy things that they bring to the priest will be his.

Every man’s holy things ¹  will be his; whatever any man gives the priest will be his.’”

There must never be a sacred prostitute ¹  among the young women ²  of Israel nor a sacred male prostitute ³  among the young men ⁴  of Israel.

Their children are always thinking about ¹  their ²  altars and their sacred poles dedicated to the goddess Asherah, ³  set up beside the green trees on the high hills

He smashed the sacred pillars to bits, cut down the Asherah pole, and filled those shrines ¹  with human bones.

You must tear down their altars, shatter their sacred pillars, ¹  burn up their sacred Asherah poles, ²  and cut down the images of their gods; you must eliminate their very memory from that place.

He did evil in the sight of ¹  the Lord, but not to the same degree as his father and mother. He did remove the sacred pillar of Baal that his father had made.
