These towns that you must give shall be your six towns for refuge.

Consequently ¹  the Lord provides safety for the oppressed; ²  he provides safety in times of trouble. ³ 

He will say, “Where are their gods, the rock in whom they sought security,

The wild goats live in the high mountains; ¹  the rock badgers find safety in the cliffs.

Many are appalled when they see me, ¹  but you are my secure shelter.

By day it will be a shelter to provide shade from the heat, as well as safety and protection from the heavy downpour. ¹ 

For you have taken refuge in the Lord, my shelter, the sovereign One. ¹ 

“Have the Israelites select ¹  the cities of refuge ²  that I told you about through Moses.

from the tribe of Gad: Ramoth in Gilead (a city of refuge for one who committed manslaughter), Mahanaim,

I say this about the Lord, my shelter and my stronghold, my God in whom I trust –

In the fear of the Lord one has ¹  strong confidence, ²  and it will be a refuge ³  for his children.

Indeed, ¹  you are ²  my shelter, a strong tower that protects me from the enemy. ³ 

It is better to take shelter ¹  in the Lord than to trust in people.

It is better to take shelter in the Lord than to trust in princes.

But if the slayer at any time goes outside the boundary of the town to which he had fled,

I cry out to you, O Lord; I say, “You are my shelter, my security ¹  in the land of the living.”

Do not cause me dismay! ¹  You are my source of safety in times of trouble.

You want to humiliate the oppressed, ¹  even though ²  the Lord is their ³  shelter.

But the Lord will protect me, ¹  and my God will shelter me. ² 

The wicked will be thrown down in his trouble, ¹  but the righteous have refuge ²  even in the threat of death. ³
