Now this ¹  is the promise that he ²  himself made to ³  us: eternal life. ⁴ 

But you, ¹  brothers and sisters, ²  are children of the promise like Isaac.

And so by persevering, Abraham ¹  inherited the promise.

For if the inheritance is based on the law, it is no longer based on the promise, but God graciously gave ¹  it to Abraham through the promise.

This gospel ¹  he promised beforehand through his prophets in the holy scriptures,

By faith he lived as a foreigner ¹  in the promised land as though it were a foreign country, living in tents with Isaac and Jacob, who were fellow heirs ²  of the same promise.

“The Lord is worthy of praise because he has made Israel his people secure ¹  just as he promised! Not one of all the faithful promises he made through his servant Moses is left unfulfilled! ² 

Has his loyal love disappeared forever? Has his promise ¹  failed forever?

so much that he promised with an oath ¹  to give her whatever she asked.

From the descendants ¹  of this man ²  God brought to Israel a Savior, Jesus, just as he promised. ³ 

And we proclaim to you the good news about the promise to our ancestors, ¹ 

This means ¹  it is not the children of the flesh ²  who are the children of God; rather, the children of promise are counted as descendants.

For this is what the promise declared: ¹  “About a year from now ²  I will return and Sarah will have a son.” ³ 

And if you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham’s descendants, ¹  heirs according to the promise.

“Honor your father and mother,” ¹  which is the first commandment accompanied by a promise, namely,

Through faith they conquered kingdoms, administered justice, ¹  gained what was promised, ²  shut the mouths of lions,

And these all were commended ¹  for their faith, yet they did not receive what was promised. ² 

When you enter the land that the Lord will give to you, just as he said, you must observe ¹  this ceremony.

Now, O Lord, you are the true God; ¹  you have made this good promise to your servant. ² 

Yes, ¹  he remembered the sacred promise ²  he made to Abraham his servant.
