You must not put the Lord your God to the test as you did at Massah. ¹ 

Does not the ear test words, as ¹  the tongue ²  tastes food? ³ 

Examine me, O Lord, and test me! Evaluate my inner thoughts and motives! ¹ 

Examine me, and probe my thoughts! ¹  Test me, and know my concerns! ² 

And one of them, an expert in religious law, ¹  asked him a question to test ²  him:

Others, to test ¹  him, ²  began asking for ³  a sign ⁴  from heaven.

(Now Jesus ¹  said this to test him, for he knew what he was going to do.) ² 

And I hope that you will realize that we have not failed the test! ¹ 

These were the nations the Lord permitted to remain so he could use them to test Israel – he wanted to test all those who had not experienced battle against the Canaanites. ¹ 

Put yourselves to the test to see if you are in the faith; examine yourselves! Or do you not recognize regarding yourselves that Jesus Christ is in you – unless, indeed, you fail the test! ¹ 

“Please test your servants for ten days by providing us with some vegetables to eat and water to drink.

Now when the Pharisees ¹  and Sadducees ²  came to test Jesus, ³  they asked him to show them a sign from heaven. ⁴ 

Then the Pharisees ¹  came and began to argue with Jesus, asking for ²  a sign from heaven ³  to test him.

Then some Pharisees ¹  came, and to test him ²  they asked, “Is it lawful for a man to divorce his ³  wife?” ⁴ 

Jesus ¹  answered him, ²  “It is said, ‘You are not to put the Lord your God to the test.’” ³ 

And let us not put Christ ¹  to the test, as some of them did, and were destroyed by snakes. ² 

For this reason also I wrote you: ¹  to test you to see ²  if you are obedient in everything.

They were left to test Israel, so the Lord would know if his people would obey the commands he gave their ancestors through Moses. ¹ 

But Ahaz responded, “I don’t want to ask; I don’t want to put the Lord to a test.” ¹ 

Jesus said to him, “Once again it is written: ‘You are not to put the Lord your God to the test.’” ¹
