He pours contempt on noblemen and disarms ¹  the powerful. ² 

and killed powerful kings, for his loyal love endures,

(The Emites ¹  used to live there, a people as powerful, numerous, and tall as the Anakites.

He had 700 royal wives ¹  and 300 concubines; ²  his wives had a powerful influence over him. ³ 

Jotham grew powerful because he was determined to please the Lord his God. ¹ 

Although you were a powerful man, ¹  owning land, ²  an honored man ³  living on it, ⁴ 

Many bulls ¹  surround me; powerful bulls of Bashan ²  hem me in.

The Lord’s shout is powerful, ¹  the Lord’s shout is majestic. ²

His descendants ¹  will be powerful on the earth; the godly ²  will be blessed.

So a strong nation will extol you; the towns of ¹  powerful nations will fear you.

Then a powerful king ¹  will arise, exercising great authority and doing as he pleases.

¹ The Lord says, “Wise people should not boast that they are wise. Powerful people should not boast that they are powerful. ²  Rich people should not boast that they are rich. ³ 

Then Abimelech said to Isaac, “Leave us and go elsewhere, ¹  for you have become much more powerful ²  than we are.”

But he said, “You may not pass through.” Then Edom came out against them ¹  with a large and powerful force. ² 

They are your servants and your people, whom you have redeemed by your mighty strength and by your powerful hand.

So he saves ¹  from the sword that comes from their mouth, ²  even ³  the poor from the hand of the powerful.

Do you have an arm as powerful as God’s, ¹  and can you thunder with a voice like his?

God has decreed that you will be powerful. ¹  O God, you who have acted on our behalf, demonstrate your power,

Praise the Lord, you angels of his, you powerful warriors who carry out his decrees and obey his orders! ¹
