For those who sleep, sleep at night and those who get drunk are drunk at night.

As the night was ending, ¹  Jesus came to them walking on the sea. ² 

And leaving them, he went out of the city to Bethany and spent the night there.

But if anyone walks around at night, ¹  he stumbles, ²  because the light is not in him.”

Judas ¹  took the piece of bread and went out immediately. (Now it was night.) ² 

Its gates will never be closed during the day ¹  (and ²  there will be no night there). ³ 

Then he got up, took the child and his mother during ¹  the night, and went to Egypt.

telling them, “You are to say, ‘His disciples came at night and stole his body ¹  while we were asleep.’

Now ¹  there were shepherds ²  nearby ³  living out in the field, keeping guard ⁴  over their flock at night.

Simon ¹  answered, ²  “Master, ³  we worked hard all night and caught nothing! But at your word ⁴  I will lower ⁵  the nets.”

But during the night an angel of the Lord ¹  opened ²  the doors of the prison, ³  led them out, ⁴  and said,

So the soldiers, in accordance with their orders, ¹  took ²  Paul and brought him to Antipatris ³  during the night.

For last night an angel of the God to whom I belong ¹  and whom I serve ²  came to me ³ 

Jesus said to him, “I tell you the truth, ¹  on this night, before the rooster crows, you will deny me three times.”

He goes to sleep and gets up, night and day, and the seed sprouts and grows, though he does not know how.

Each night and every day among the tombs and in the mountains, he would cry out and cut himself with stones.

Jesus said to him, “I tell you the truth, ¹  today – this very night – before a rooster crows twice, you will deny me three times.”

She had lived as a widow since then for eighty-four years. ¹  She never left the temple, worshiping with fasting and prayer night and day. ² 

Now ¹  it was during this time that Jesus ²  went out to the mountain ³  to pray, and he spent all night ⁴  in prayer to God. ⁵ 

But God said to him, ‘You fool! This very night your life ¹  will be demanded back from ²  you, but who will get what you have prepared for yourself?’ ³
