At that time Herod the tetrarch ¹  heard reports about Jesus,

Those who heard this said, “Then ¹  who can be saved?” ² 

When Ananias heard these words he collapsed and died, and great fear gripped ¹  all who heard about it.

Consequently faith comes from what is heard, and what is heard comes through the preached word ¹  of Christ. ² 

When King Herod ¹  heard this he was alarmed, and all Jerusalem with him.

Now when Jesus ¹  heard that John had been imprisoned, ²  he went into Galilee.

“You have heard that it was said, ‘Do not commit adultery.’ ¹ 

“You have heard that it was said, ‘Love your neighbor’ ¹  and ‘hate your enemy.’

But when the young man heard this he went away sorrowful, for he was very rich. ¹ 

The ¹  disciples were greatly astonished when they heard this and said, “Then who can be saved?” ² 

Now ¹  when the other ten ²  heard this, ³  they were angry with the two brothers.

Now when they heard this they were stunned, ¹  and they left him and went away.

When the crowds heard this, they were amazed at his teaching.

Now when the Pharisees ¹  heard that he had silenced the Sadducees, ²  they assembled together. ³ 

When ¹  some of the bystanders heard it, they said, “This man is calling for Elijah.”

But when Herod heard this, he said, “John, whom I beheaded, has been raised!”

Now ¹  when the other ten ²  heard this, ³  they became angry with James and John.

You have heard the blasphemy! What is your verdict?” ¹  They all condemned him as deserving death.

When some of the bystanders heard it they said, “Listen, he is calling for Elijah!” ¹ 

and all who heard it were astonished ¹  at what the shepherds said.
