Although they claimed ¹  to be wise, they became fools

And although you were ¹  dead ²  in your transgressions and sins,

Although I am innocent, ¹  my mouth ²  would condemn me; ³  although I am blameless, it would declare me perverse. ⁴ 

For this reason I speak to them in parables: Although they see they do not see, and although they hear they do not hear nor do they understand.

He called that place Bethel, ¹  although the former name of the town was Luz.
