so that my heart was secretly enticed, and my hand threw them a kiss from my mouth, ¹ 

Their ¹  idols are made of silver and gold – they are man-made. ² 

The Lord repaid ¹  me for my godly deeds; ²  he rewarded ³  my blameless behavior. ⁴ 

He trains ¹  my hands for battle; ²  my arms can bend even the strongest bow. ³ 

God abandons me to evil ¹  men, ²  and throws ³  me into the hands of wicked men.

“Even today my complaint is still bitter; ¹  his ²  hand is heavy despite ³  my groaning.

“Indeed, I am completely unworthy ¹  – how could I reply to you? I put ²  my hand over my mouth to silence myself. ³

I spread my hands out to you in prayer; ¹  my soul thirsts for you in a parched ²  land. ³ 

However, ¹  because ²  I called but you refused to listen, ³  because ⁴  I stretched out my hand ⁵  but no one paid attention,

I overpowered kingdoms ruled by idols, ¹  whose carved images were more impressive than Jerusalem’s ²  or Samaria’s.

The enemy said, ‘I will chase, ¹  I will overtake, I will divide the spoil; my desire ²  will be satisfied on them. I will draw ³  my sword, my hand will destroy them.’ ⁴ 

Be careful ¹  not to say, “My own ability and skill ²  have gotten me this wealth.”

I grabbed the two tablets, threw them down, ¹  and shattered them before your very eyes.

For I raise up my hand to heaven, and say, ‘As surely as I live forever,
