Shem, Arphaxad, Shelah, ¹ 

On the flinty rock man has set to work ¹  with his hand; he has overturned mountains at their bases. ² 

He ¹  attacks ²  his friends; ³  he breaks his solemn promises to them. ⁴ 

He sent a man ahead of them ¹  – Joseph was sold as a servant.

The king authorized his release; ¹  the ruler of nations set him free.

Hurl lightning bolts and scatter them! Shoot your arrows and rout them! ¹ 

He sent messengers throughout Manasseh and summoned them to follow him as well. ¹  He also sent messengers throughout Asher, Zebulun, and Naphtali, and they came up to meet him.

Arphaxad was the father of ¹  Shelah, ²  and Shelah was the father of Eber. ³ 

When Arphaxad had lived 35 years, he became the father of Shelah.

But Moses said, ¹  “O ²  my Lord, please send anyone else whom you wish to send!” ³ 

Balak again sent princes, ¹  more numerous and more distinguished than the first. ² 

Arphaxad was the father of Shelah, and Shelah was the father of Eber.

For he has been thrown into a net by his feet ¹  and he wanders into a mesh. ² 

Who let the wild donkey go free? Who released the bonds of the donkey,

Like cutting off the feet or drinking violence, ¹  so is sending ²  a message by the hand of a fool. ³
