This is how you assessed ¹  the obscene conduct of your youth, when the Egyptians fondled ²  your nipples and squeezed ³  your young breasts.

who satisfies your life with good things, ¹  so your youth is renewed like an eagle’s. ² 

Sons born during one’s youth are like arrows in a warrior’s hand. ¹ 

May your fountain be blessed, ¹  and may you rejoice ²  in your young wife ³  –

It is good for a man ¹  to bear ²  the yoke ³  while he is young. ⁴ 

For you write down ¹  bitter things against me and cause me to inherit the sins of my youth. ² 

but from my youth I raised the orphan ¹  like a father, and from my mother’s womb ²  I guided the widow! ³ 

For you give me confidence, ¹  O Lord; O Lord, I have trusted in you since I was young. ²

Then ¹  our sons will be like plants, that quickly grow to full size. ²  Our daughters will be like corner pillars, ³  carved like those in a palace. ⁴ 

They will disappoint you, ¹  those you have so faithfully dealt with since your youth. ²  Each strays off in his own direction, ³  leaving no one to rescue you.”

Yet I will remember the covenant I made with you in the days of your youth, and I will establish a lasting ¹  covenant with you.
