Your words have supported ¹  those who stumbled, ²  and you have strengthened the knees that gave way. ³ 

Do you intend to criticize mere words, and treat ¹  the words of a despairing man as wind?

Listen carefully ¹  to my words; let your ears be attentive to my explanation. ² 

“How long will you torment me ¹  and crush ²  me with your words? ³ 

“Listen carefully ¹  to my words; let this be ²  the consolation you offer me. ³ 

the chief men refrained from talking and covered their mouths with their hands;

“And now I have become their taunt song; I have become a byword ¹  among them.

For I am full of words, and the spirit within me ¹  constrains me. ² 

“Indeed, you have said in my hearing ¹  (I heard the sound of the words!):

“Listen to my words, you wise men; hear ¹  me, you learned men. ² 

I ¹  will reply to you, ²  and to your friends with you.

The Lord’s spirit spoke through me; his word was on my tongue.

“If someone ¹  should attempt ²  a word with you, will you be impatient? ³  But who can refrain from speaking ⁴ ?

Will they not ¹  instruct you and ²  speak to you, and bring forth words ³  from their understanding? ⁴ 

Does not the ear test words, as ¹  the tongue ²  tastes food? ³ 

Does he argue ¹  with useless ²  talk, with words that have no value in them?

when you turn your rage ¹  against God and allow such words to escape ²  from your mouth?

“How long until you ¹  make an end of words? ²  You must consider, ³  and then ⁴  we can talk.

I would know with what words ¹  he would answer me, and understand what he would say to me.

“If this is not so, who can prove me a liar and reduce my words to nothing?” ¹
