Consider! It is planted, but will it prosper? Will it not wither completely when the east wind blows on it? Will it not wither in the soil where it sprouted?’”

The vine has dried up; the fig tree languishes – the pomegranate, date, and apple ¹  as well. In fact, ²  all the trees of the field have dried up. Indeed, the joy of the people ³  has dried up!

I will make the trees on the mountains and hills wither up; ¹  I will dry up all their vegetation. I will turn streams into islands, ²  and dry up pools of water. ³ 

Below his roots dry up, and his branches wither above.

in the morning it glistens ¹  and sprouts up; at evening time it withers ²  and dries up.

May they be like the grass on the rooftops which withers before one can even pull it up, ¹ 

The water of the sea will be dried up, and the river will dry up and be empty. ¹ 

who says to the deep sea, ‘Be dry! I will dry up your sea currents,’

The Lord God of Israel who rules over all ¹  spoke about Moab. ²  “Sure to be judged is Nebo! Indeed, ³  it will be destroyed! Kiriathaim ⁴  will suffer disgrace. It will be captured! Its fortress ⁵  will suffer disgrace. It will be torn down! ⁶ 

But it was plucked up in anger; it was thrown down to the ground. The east wind ¹  dried up its fruit; its strong branches broke off and withered – a fire consumed them.

Woe to the worthless shepherd who abandons the flock! May a sword fall on his arm and his right eye! May his arm wither completely away, and his right eye become completely blind!”

And by the twenty-seventh day of the second month the earth ¹  was dry.

While they are still beginning to flower ¹  and not ripe for cutting, ²  they can wither away ³  faster ⁴  than any grass! ⁵ 

If he holds back the waters, then they dry up; ¹  if he releases them, ²  they destroy ³  the land.

As ¹  water disappears from the sea, ²  or a river drains away and dries up,

You broke open the spring and the stream; ¹  you dried up perpetually flowing rivers. ² 

My days are coming to an end, ¹  and I am withered like grass.

A cheerful heart ¹  brings good healing, ²  but a crushed spirit ³  dries up the bones. ⁴ 

The grass dries up, the flowers wither, but the decree of our God is forever reliable.” ¹ 

Poor dear Egypt ¹  will be put to shame. She will be handed over to the people from the north.”
