Moses listened to ¹  his father-in-law and did everything he had said.

Then Moses sent his father-in-law on his way, ¹  and so Jethro ²  went ³  to his own land. ⁴ 

‘Cursed is the one who has sexual relations with his mother-in-law.’ Then all the people will say, ‘Amen!’

Jehoshaphat was very wealthy and greatly respected. He made an alliance by marriage with Ahab,

Intermarry with us. ¹  Let us marry your daughters, and take our daughters as wives for yourselves. ² 

Jethro, Moses’ father-in-law, took Moses’ wife Zipporah after he had sent her back,

He said ¹  to Moses, “I, your father-in-law Jethro, am coming to you, along with your wife and her two sons with her.”

Moses said to his father-in-law, “Because the people come to me to inquire ¹  of God.

Moses’ father-in-law said to him, “What ¹  you are doing is not good!

You must not intermarry with them. Do not give your daughters to their sons or take their daughters for your sons,

When the man got ready to leave, ¹  his father-in-law convinced him to stay another night. ² 

Then Jethro, Moses’ father-in-law, brought ¹  a burnt offering and sacrifices for God, ²  and Aaron and all the elders of Israel came to eat food ³  with the father-in-law of Moses before God.

Jethro, Moses’ father-in-law, together with Moses’ ¹  sons and his wife, came to Moses in the desert where he was camping by ²  the mountain of God. ³ 

Moses went out to meet his father-in-law and bowed down and kissed him; ¹  they each asked about the other’s welfare, and then they went into the tent.

But if you ever turn away and make alliances with ¹  these nations that remain near you, ²  and intermarry with them and establish friendly relations with them, ³ 

Now Heber the Kenite had moved away ¹  from the Kenites, the descendants of Hobab, Moses’ father-in-law. He lived ²  near the great tree in Zaanannim near Kedesh.

His father-in-law, the girl’s father, persuaded him to stay with him for three days, and they ate and drank together, and spent the night there.

So Saul’s servants spoke these words privately ¹  to David. David replied, “Is becoming the king’s son-in-law something insignificant to you? I’m just a poor and lightly-esteemed man!”

So his servants told David these things and David agreed ¹  to become the king’s son-in-law. Now the specified time had not yet expired ² 

Shall we once again break your commandments and intermarry with these abominable peoples? Would you not be so angered by us that you would wipe us out, with no survivor or remnant?
