For to the snow he says, ‘Fall ¹  to earth,’ and to the torrential rains, ²  ‘Pour down.’ ³ 

I will turn them and the regions around my hill into a blessing. I will make showers come down in their season; they will be showers that bring blessing. ¹ 

He sent hail along with the rain; ¹  there was lightning in their land. ² 

And the rain fell ¹  on the earth forty days and forty nights.

Like cloudy skies and wind that produce no rain, ¹  so is the one who boasts ²  of a gift not given. ³ 

The north wind ¹  brings forth rain, and a gossiping tongue ²  brings forth ³  an angry look. ⁴ 

Look! The winter has passed, the winter rains are over and gone.

The fountains of the deep and the floodgates of heaven were closed, ¹  and the rain stopped falling from the sky.

I will give you your rains in their time so that ¹  the land will give its yield and the trees of the field will produce their fruit. ² 

After a while, ¹  the stream dried up because there had been no rain in the land.

Then Elijah told Ahab, “Go on up and eat and drink, for the sound of a heavy rainstorm can be heard.” ¹ 

O God, you cause abundant showers to fall ¹  on your chosen people. ²  When they ³  are tired, you sustain them, ⁴ 

before the sun and the light ¹  of the moon and the stars grow dark, and the clouds disappear ²  after the rain;

They are dismayed because the ground is cracked ¹  because there has been no rain in the land. The farmers, too, are dismayed and bury their faces in their hands.

Meanwhile the sky was covered with dark clouds, the wind blew, and there was a heavy rainstorm. Ahab rode toward ¹  Jezreel.

for this is what the Lord says, ‘You will not feel ¹  any wind or see any rain, but this valley will be full of water and you and your cattle and animals will drink.’

If the clouds are full of rain, they will empty themselves on the earth, and whether a tree falls to the south or to the north, the tree will lie wherever it falls.

He cuts down cedars and acquires a cypress ¹  or an oak. He gets ²  trees from the forest; he plants a cedar ³  and the rain makes it grow.

They do not say to themselves, ¹  “Let us revere the Lord our God. It is he who gives us the autumn rains and the spring rains at the proper time. It is he who assures us of the regular weeks of harvest.” ² 

Tell the ones who coat it with whitewash that it will fall. When there is a deluge of rain, hailstones ¹  will fall and a violent wind will break out. ²
