(because they said, “He has an unclean spirit” ¹ ).

They also said many other things against him, reviling ¹  him.

Others said, “He is Elijah.” Others said, “He is a prophet, like one of the prophets from the past.”

Others said, “This is the Christ!” ¹  But still others said, “No, ²  for the Christ doesn’t come from Galilee, does he? ³ 

Some people said, ¹  “This is the man!” ²  while others said, “No, but he looks like him.” ³  The man himself ⁴  kept insisting, “I am the one!” ⁵ 

But the Pharisees ¹  said, “By the ruler ²  of demons he casts out demons.” ³ 

But they said, “Not during the feast, so that there won’t be a riot among the people.” ¹ 

In ¹  the same way even the chief priests – together with the experts in the law ²  and elders ³  – were mocking him: ⁴ 

When ¹  some of the bystanders heard it, they said, “This man is calling for Elijah.”

When his family ¹  heard this they went out to restrain him, for they said, “He is out of his mind.”

For they said, “Not during the feast, so there won’t be a riot among the people.” ¹ 

When some of the bystanders heard it they said, “Listen, he is calling for Elijah!” ¹ 

So the disciples began to say ¹  to one another, “No one brought him anything ²  to eat, did they?” ³ 

So they asked him, ¹  “How then were you made to see?” ² 

Thus the people who had come to mourn ¹  said, “Look how much he loved him!”

But others jeered at the speakers, ¹  saying, “They are drunk on new wine!” ² 

Surely you recall ¹  that I used to tell you these things while I was still with you.

And the four living creatures were saying “Amen,” and the elders threw themselves to the ground ¹  and worshiped.

There was ¹  a lot of grumbling ²  about him among the crowds. ³  Some were saying, “He is a good man,” but others, “He deceives the common people.” ⁴ 

All the crowds were amazed and said, “Could this one be the Son of David?”
