older women as mothers, and younger women as sisters – with complete purity.

(Now Jesus loved Martha and her sister and Lazarus.) ¹ 

If a brother or sister ¹  is poorly clothed and lacks daily food,

The children of your elect sister greet you. ¹ 

And aren’t all his sisters here with us? Where did he get all this?” ¹ 

For whoever does the will of God is ¹  my brother and sister and mother.”

Now a certain man named Lazarus was sick. He was from Bethany, the village where Mary and her sister Martha lived. ¹ 

So the sisters sent a message ¹  to Jesus, ²  “Lord, look, the one you love is sick.”

Now I commend to you our sister Phoebe, who is a servant ¹  of the church in Cenchrea,

Greet Philologus and Julia, Nereus and his sister, and Olympas, and all the believers ¹  who are with them.

to Apphia ¹  our sister, ²  to Archippus our ³  fellow soldier, and to the church that meets in your house.

For whoever does the will of my Father in heaven is ¹  my brother and sister and mother.”

She ¹  had a sister named Mary, who sat ²  at the Lord’s feet ³  and listened to what he said.

And when she had said this, Martha ¹  went and called her sister Mary, saying privately, ²  “The Teacher is here and is asking for you.” ³ 

Jesus said, “Take away the stone.” ¹  Martha, the sister of the deceased, ²  replied, “Lord, by this time the body will have a bad smell, ³  because he has been buried ⁴  four days.” ⁵ 

But when the son of Paul’s sister heard about the ambush, ¹  he came and entered ²  the barracks ³  and told Paul.

Do we not have the right to the company of a believing wife, like the other apostles and the Lord’s brothers and Cephas?

And whoever has left houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or children or fields for my sake will receive a hundred times as much ¹  and will inherit eternal life.

Isn’t this the carpenter, the son ¹  of Mary ²  and brother of James, Joses, Judas, and Simon? And aren’t his sisters here with us?” And so they took offense at him.

Jesus said, “I tell you the truth, ¹  there is no one who has left home or brothers or sisters or mother or father or children or fields for my sake and for the sake of the gospel
