older women as mothers, and younger women as sisters – with complete purity.

For by it the people of old ¹  received God’s commendation. ² 

But when he was accused by the chief priests and the elders, he did not respond.

In ¹  the same way even the chief priests – together with the experts in the law ²  and elders ³  – were mocking him: ⁴ 

Then Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, ¹  replied, ²  “Rulers of the people and elders, ³ 

They did so, ¹  sending their financial aid ²  to the elders by Barnabas and Saul.

Both the apostles and the elders met together to deliberate ¹  about this matter.

From Miletus ¹  he sent a message ²  to Ephesus, telling the elders of the church to come to him. ³ 

Do not address an older man harshly ¹  but appeal to him as a father. Speak to younger men as brothers, ² 

Do not accept an accusation against an elder unless it can be confirmed by two or three witnesses. ¹ 

From ¹  the elder, ²  to Gaius ³  my dear brother, whom I love in truth. ⁴ 

And the four living creatures were saying “Amen,” and the elders threw themselves to the ground ¹  and worshiped.

After ¹  they had assembled with the elders and formed a plan, they gave a large sum of money to the soldiers,

On the next day, ¹  their rulers, elders, and experts in the law ²  came together ³  in Jerusalem. ⁴ 

When they had appointed elders ¹  for them in the various churches, ²  with prayer and fasting ³  they entrusted them to the protection ⁴  of the Lord in whom they had believed.

The next day Paul went in with us to see James, and all the elders were there. ¹ 

Elders who provide effective leadership ¹  must be counted worthy ²  of double honor, ³  especially those who work hard in speaking ⁴  and teaching.

“Why do your disciples disobey the tradition of the elders? For they don’t wash their ¹  hands when they eat.” ² 

Then the chief priests and the elders of the people met together in the palace of the high priest, who was named Caiaphas.

Now the ones who had arrested Jesus led him to Caiaphas, the high priest, in whose house ¹  the experts in the law ²  and the elders had gathered.
