Although they claimed ¹  to be wise, they became fools

Whoever brings a fool ¹  into the world ²  does so ³  to his grief, and the father of a fool has no joy. ⁴ 

The lips of a fool ¹  enter into strife, ²  and his mouth invites ³  a flogging. ⁴ 

A whip for the horse and a bridle for the donkey, and a rod for the backs of fools! ¹ 

The wise inherit honor, but he holds fools up ¹  to public contempt. ² 

The crown of the wise is their riches, ¹  but the folly ²  of fools is folly.

A fool takes no pleasure ¹  in understanding but only in disclosing ²  what is on his mind. ³ 

Judgments ¹  are prepared for scorners, and floggings for the backs of fools.

It is an honor for a person ¹  to cease ²  from strife, but every fool quarrels. ³ 

under a servant ¹  who becomes king, under a fool who is stuffed with food, ² 

A fool’s annoyance ¹  is known at once, ²  but the prudent ³  overlooks ⁴  an insult.

The mouth of a fool is his ruin, and his lips are a snare for his life. ¹ 

He ¹  leads ²  counselors away stripped ³  and makes judges ⁴  into fools. ⁵ 

The teaching ¹  of the righteous feeds ²  many, but fools die ³  for lack of wisdom. ⁴ 

The fool folds his hands and does no work, ¹  so he has nothing to eat but his own flesh. ² 

Wisdom is directly in front of ¹  the discerning person, but the eyes of a fool run ²  to the ends of the earth. ³ 

A stone is heavy and sand is weighty, but vexation ¹  by a fool is more burdensome ²  than the two of them.

Just as dreams come when there are many cares, ¹  so ²  the rash vow ³  of a fool occurs ⁴  when there are many words.

They acted like fools in their rebellious ways, ¹  and suffered because of their sins.

The wise person ¹  accepts instructions, ²  but the one who speaks foolishness ³  will come to ruin. ⁴
