The one ¹  who flatters ²  his neighbor spreads a net ³  for his steps. ⁴ 

People lie to one another; ¹  they flatter and deceive. ² 

A lying tongue ¹  hates those crushed by it, and a flattering mouth works ruin. ² 

But they deceived him with their words, ¹  and lied to him. ² 

May the Lord cut off ¹  all flattering lips, and the tongue that boasts! ² 

For there will no longer be any false visions or flattering omens amidst the house of Israel.

The one who reproves ¹  another ²  will in the end ³  find more favor than the one who flatters ⁴  with the tongue.

I will not show partiality to anyone, ¹  nor will I confer a title ²  on any man.

for I do not know how to give honorary titles, ¹  if I did, ²  my Creator would quickly do away with me. ³ 

for he is too proud to recognize and give up his sin. ¹ 

to deliver you ¹  from the adulteress, ²  from the sexually loose woman ³  who speaks flattering ⁴  words; ⁵ 

so that they may keep you ¹  from the adulterous ²  woman, from the loose woman ³  who flatters you ⁴  with her words. ⁵ 

For ¹  they do not speak the truth; ²  their stomachs are like the place of destruction, ³  their throats like an open grave, ⁴  their tongues like a steep slope leading into it. ⁵ 

These people are grumblers and ¹  fault-finders who go ²  wherever their desires lead them, ³  and they give bombastic speeches, ⁴  enchanting folks ⁵  for their own gain. ⁶ 

She persuaded him ¹  with persuasive words; ²  with her smooth talk ³  she compelled him. ⁴ 

For we never appeared ¹  with flattering speech, as you know, nor with a pretext for greed – God is our witness –

For these are the kind who do not serve our Lord Christ, but their own appetites. By their smooth talk and flattery they deceive the minds ¹  of the naive.

by keeping ¹  you from the evil woman, ²  from the smooth tongue of ³  the loose woman. ⁴ 

Will it make numerous supplications to you, ¹  will it speak to you with tender words? ² 

The one who goes about gossiping ¹  reveals secrets; therefore do not associate ²  with someone who is always opening his mouth. ³
