In the troubling thoughts ¹  of the dreams ²  in the night when a deep sleep ³  falls on men,

for a prostitute is like ¹  a deep pit; a harlot ²  is like ³  a narrow well. ⁴ 

when he established the clouds above, when the fountains of the deep grew strong, ¹ 

He reveals the deep things of darkness, and brings deep shadows ¹  into the light.

Have you gone to the springs that fill the sea, ¹  or walked about in the recesses of the deep?

How great are your works, O Lord! Your plans are very intricate! ¹ 

who says to the deep sea, ‘Be dry! I will dry up your sea currents,’

Counsel ¹  in a person’s heart ²  is like ³  deep water, ⁴  but an understanding person ⁵  draws it out.

Whatever has happened is beyond human ¹  understanding; ²  it is far deeper than anyone can fathom. ³
