And the light shines on ¹  in the darkness, ²  but ³  the darkness has not mastered it. ⁴ 

to the land of utter darkness, like the deepest darkness, and the deepest shadow and disorder, ¹  where even the light ²  is like darkness.” ³ 

But the one who hates his fellow Christian ¹  is in the darkness, walks in the darkness, and does not know where he is going, because the darkness has blinded his eyes. ² 

Man puts an end to the darkness; ¹  he searches the farthest recesses for the ore in the deepest darkness. ² 

When one looks out over the land, he sees ¹  distress and darkness, gloom ²  and anxiety, darkness and people forced from the land. ³ 

even the darkness is not too dark for you to see, ¹  and the night is as bright as ²  day; darkness and light are the same to you. ³ 

in the twilight, the evening, ¹  in the dark of the night. ² 

But if your eye is diseased, ¹  your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light in you is darkness, how great is the darkness!

Yet I have not been silent because of the darkness, because of the thick darkness that covered my face. ¹ 

He made it dark; ¹  they did not disobey his orders. ² 

Though the stillborn child ¹  came into the world ²  for no reason ³  and departed into darkness, though its name is shrouded in darkness, ⁴ 

There is no darkness, and no deep darkness, where evildoers can hide themselves. ¹ 

May their path be ¹  dark and slippery, as the Lord’s angel chases them!

He is driven ¹  from light into darkness and is banished from the world.

“In what direction ¹  does light reside, and darkness, where is its place,

They sat in utter darkness, ¹  bound in painful iron chains, ² 

And throw that worthless slave into the outer darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’

He shrouded himself in darkness, ¹  in thick rain clouds. ² 

He reveals the deep things of darkness, and brings deep shadows ¹  into the light.

For all of them, ¹  the morning is to them like deep darkness; they are friends with the terrors of darkness.
