holding to the mystery of the faith ¹  with a clear conscience.

influenced by the hypocrisy of liars ¹  whose consciences are seared. ² 

I do not mean yours but the other person’s. For why is my freedom being judged by another’s conscience?

Therefore it is necessary to be in subjection, not only because of the wrath of the authorities ¹  but also because of your conscience. ² 

To do this ¹  you must hold firmly to faith and a good conscience, which some have rejected and so have suffered shipwreck in regard to the faith.

They ¹  show that the work of the law is written ²  in their hearts, as their conscience bears witness and their conflicting thoughts accuse or else defend ³  them, ⁴ 

Paul looked directly ¹  at the council ²  and said, “Brothers, I have lived my life with a clear conscience ³  before God to this day.”

This is the reason ¹  I do my best to always ²  have a clear ³  conscience toward God and toward people. ⁴ 

All is pure to those who are pure. But to those who are corrupt and unbelieving, nothing is pure, but both their minds and consciences are corrupted.

This was a symbol for the time then present, when gifts and sacrifices were offered that could not perfect the conscience of the worshiper.

Yet do it with courtesy and respect, ¹  keeping a good conscience, so that those who slander your good conduct in Christ may be put to shame when they accuse you. ² 

¹ I am telling the truth in Christ (I am not lying!), for my conscience assures me ²  in the Holy Spirit –

But the aim of our instruction ¹  is love that comes from a pure heart, a good conscience, and a sincere faith. ² 

I am thankful to God, whom I have served with a clear conscience as my ancestors did, ¹  when I remember you in my prayers as I do constantly night and day. ² 

Pray for us, for we are sure that we have a clear conscience and desire to conduct ourselves rightly in every respect.

If you sin against your brothers or sisters ¹  in this way and wound their weak conscience, you sin against Christ.

Eat anything that is sold in the marketplace without questions of conscience,

If an unbeliever invites you to dinner and you want to go, eat whatever is served without asking questions of conscience.

And this prefigured baptism, which now saves you ¹  – not the washing off of physical dirt ²  but the pledge ³  of a good conscience to God – through the resurrection of Jesus Christ,

For if someone weak sees you who possess knowledge dining in an idol’s temple, will not his conscience be “strengthened” ¹  to eat food offered to idols?
