God thunders with his voice in marvelous ways; ¹  he does great things beyond our understanding. ² 

And the light shines on ¹  in the darkness, ²  but ³  the darkness has not mastered it. ⁴ 

Have you considered the vast expanses of the earth? Tell me, if you know it all!

you may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth, ¹ 

You will no longer see a defiant ¹  people whose language you do not comprehend, ²  whose derisive speech you do not understand. ³

Yet ¹  his parents ²  did not understand ³  the remark ⁴  he made ⁵  to them.

Then he opened their minds so they could understand the scriptures, ¹ 

They do not comprehend or understand, for their eyes are blind and cannot see; their minds do not discern. ¹ 

For who among men knows the things of a man except the man’s spirit within him? So too, no one knows the things of God except the Spirit of God.

Mankind does not know its place; ¹  it cannot be found in the land of the living.

To ¹  learn ²  wisdom ³  and moral instruction, ⁴  and to discern ⁵  wise counsel. ⁶ 

then I discerned all that God has done: ¹  No one really comprehends what happens ²  on earth. ³  Despite all human ⁴  efforts to discover it, no one can ever grasp ⁵  it. ⁶  Even if ⁷  a wise person claimed ⁸  that he understood, he would not really comprehend ⁹  it.

The one who has ears had better listen! ¹ 

The one who has ears had better listen!” ¹ 

And he said, “Whoever has ears to hear had better listen!” ¹ 

If anyone has ears to hear, he had better listen!” ¹ 

But they did not understand this statement and were afraid to ask him.

there is no one who understands, there is no one who seeks God.

But ¹  the twelve ²  understood none of these things. This ³  saying was hidden from them, and they did not grasp ⁴  what Jesus meant. ⁵
