And he went outside and wept bitterly. ¹ 

“Their mouths are ¹  full of cursing and bitterness.” ² 

She was very upset ¹  as she prayed to the Lord, and she was weeping uncontrollably. ² 

“Why does God ²  give ³  light to one who is in misery, ⁴  and life to those ⁵  whose soul is bitter,

but in the end ¹  she is bitter ²  as wormwood, ³  sharp as a two-edged ⁴  sword.

For I see that you are bitterly envious ¹  and in bondage to sin.”

Those who call evil good and good evil are as good as dead, ¹  who turn darkness into light and light into darkness, who turn bitter into sweet and sweet into bitter. ² 

He has given me my fill of bitter herbs and made me drunk with bitterness. ¹ 

He will make the woman drink the bitter water that brings a curse, and the water that brings a curse will enter her to produce bitterness.

He has besieged ¹  and surrounded ²  me with bitter hardship. ³ 

“‘Then the priest will write these curses on a scroll and then scrape them off into the bitter water. ¹ 

For their vine is from the stock ¹  of Sodom, and from the fields of Gomorrah. ²  Their grapes contain venom, their clusters of grapes are bitter.

“Therefore, ¹  I will not refrain my mouth; ²  I will speak in the anguish of my spirit; I will complain ³  in the bitterness of my soul.

He does not allow ¹  me to recover ²  my breath, for he fills ³  me with bitterness.

And another man ¹  dies in bitterness of soul, ²  never having tasted ³  anything good.

The heart knows its own bitterness, ¹  and with its joy no one else ²  can share. ³ 

A foolish child is a grief ¹  to his father, and bitterness to the mother who bore him. ² 

Look, ambassadors ¹  cry out in the streets; messengers sent to make peace ²  weep bitterly.

They will lament loudly ¹  over you and cry bitterly. They will throw dust on their heads and roll in the ashes; ² 

they will tear out their hair because of you and put on sackcloth, and they will weep bitterly over you with intense mourning. ¹
