So Samuel followed Saul back, and Saul worshiped the Lord.

Now Michal, Saul’s daughter, loved David. When they told Saul about this, it ¹  pleased him.

The name of Saul’s wife was Ahinoam, the daughter of Ahimaaz. The name of the general in command of his army was Abner son of Ner, Saul’s uncle. ¹ 

Now Abner son of Ner, the general in command of Saul’s army, had taken Saul’s son Ish-bosheth ¹  and had brought him to Mahanaim.

So Saul was keeping an eye on David from that day onward.

Then Barnabas departed for Tarsus to look for Saul,

So Saul feared David, because the Lord was with him but had departed from Saul.

Saul’s uncle said, “Tell me what Samuel said to you.” ¹ 

Then Samuel went to Ramah, while Saul went up to his home in Gibeah of Saul.

Saul became even more afraid of him. ¹  Saul continued to be at odds with David from then on. ² 

When Saul’s servants reported what David had said,

Now Michal, Saul’s daughter, had no children to the day of her death.

(One of Saul’s servants was there that day, detained before the Lord. His name was Doeg the Edomite, who was in charge of Saul’s shepherds.)

Then the king summoned Ziba, Saul’s attendant, and said to him, “Everything that belonged to Saul and to his entire house I hereby give to your master’s grandson.

On every mission on which Saul sent him, David achieved success. So Saul appointed him over the men of war. This pleased not only all the army, but also Saul’s servants. ¹ 

Then Saul’s servants said to him, “Look, an evil spirit from God is tormenting you!”

From Benjamin, Saul’s tribe, ¹  there were 3,000, most of whom, up to that time, had been loyal to Saul. ² 

Now David was the youngest. While the three oldest sons followed Saul,

When David finished speaking these words to Saul, Saul said, “Is that your voice, my son David?” Then Saul wept loudly. ¹ 

When Saul realized ¹  that the Lord was with David and that his ²  daughter Michal loved David, ³
