I planted you in the land like a special vine of the very best stock. Why in the world have you turned into something like a wild vine that produces rotten, foul-smelling grapes? ¹ 

For their vine is from the stock ¹  of Sodom, and from the fields of Gomorrah. ²  Their grapes contain venom, their clusters of grapes are bitter.

“I am the true vine ¹  and my Father is the gardener. ² 

“So the trees said to the grapevine, ‘You come and be our king!’ ¹ 

You uprooted a vine ¹  from Egypt; you drove out nations and transplanted it.

It sprouted and became a vine, spreading low to the ground; ¹  its branches turning toward him, ²  its roots were under itself. ³  So it became a vine; it produced shoots and sent out branches.

The new wine dries up, the vines shrivel up, all those who like to celebrate ¹  groan.

Mourn over the field, ¹  over the delightful fields and the fruitful vine!

“Son of man, of all the woody branches among the trees of the forest, what happens to the wood of the vine? ¹ 

Like a vine he will let his sour grapes fall, ¹  and like an olive tree he will shed his blossoms. ² 

Binding his foal to the vine, and his colt to the choicest vine, he will wash ¹  his garments in wine, his robes in the blood of grapes.

In a good field, by abundant waters, it was planted to grow branches, bear fruit, and become a beautiful vine.

So the chief cupbearer told his dream to Joseph: ¹  “In my dream, there was a vine in front of me.

O God, invincible warrior, ¹  come back! Look down from heaven and take notice! Take care of this vine,

Your wife will be like a fruitful vine ¹  in the inner rooms of your house; your children ²  will be like olive branches, as they sit all around your table.

“‘Your mother was like a vine in your vineyard, ¹  planted by water. It was fruitful and full of branches because it was well-watered.

On the vine there were three branches. As it budded, its blossoms opened and its clusters ripened into grapes.

But the grapevine said to them, ‘I am not going to stop producing my wine, which makes gods and men so happy, just to sway above the other trees!’ ¹ 

In that day,’ says the Lord who rules over all, ‘everyone will invite his friend to fellowship under his vine and under his fig tree.’” ¹ 

For I tell you that from now on I will not drink of the fruit ¹  of the vine until the kingdom of God comes.” ²
