But if you do not forgive others, your Father will not forgive you your sins.

And although you were ¹  dead ²  in your transgressions and sins,

And even though you were dead in your ¹  transgressions and in the uncircumcision of your flesh, he nevertheless ²  made you alive with him, having forgiven all your transgressions.

“For if you forgive others ¹  their sins, your heavenly Father will also forgive you.

In him ¹  we have redemption through his blood, ²  the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of his grace

In other words, in Christ God was reconciling the world to himself, not counting people’s trespasses against them, and he has given us ¹  the message of reconciliation.

Indeed God strikes the heads of his enemies, the hairy foreheads of those who persist in rebellion. ¹ 

even though we were dead in transgressions, made us alive together with Christ – by grace you are saved! ¹  –

Whenever you stand praying, if you have anything against anyone, forgive him, so that your Father in heaven will ¹  also forgive you your sins.” ² 

He ¹  was given over ²  because of our transgressions and was raised for the sake of ³  our justification. ⁴ 

And the gift is not like the one who sinned. ¹  For judgment, resulting from the one transgression, ²  led to condemnation, but ³  the gracious gift from the many failures ⁴  led to justification.

So also my heavenly Father will do to you, if each of you does not forgive your ¹  brother ²  from your heart.”

Certainly ¹  O Lord, you are kind ²  and forgiving, and show great faithfulness to all who cry out to you.

So the priest will make atonement ¹  on his behalf before the Lord and he will be forgiven ²  for whatever he has done to become guilty.” ³ 

O Lord God of Israel, you are righteous, for we are left as a remnant this day. Indeed, we stand before you in our guilt. However, because of this guilt ¹  no one can really stand before you.”

I will break Assyria ¹  in my land, I will trample them ²  underfoot on my hills. Their yoke will be removed from my people, the burden will be lifted from their shoulders. ³ 

They will bear their shame for all their unfaithful acts against me, when they live securely on their land with no one to make them afraid.

So confess your sins to one another and pray for one another so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person has great effectiveness. ¹
