So ¹  he sent another slave to them again. This one they struck on the head and treated outrageously.

At times you were publicly exposed to abuse and afflictions, and at other times you came to share with others who were treated in that way.

But the Egyptians mistreated and oppressed us, forcing us to do burdensome labor.

The ¹  rest seized his slaves, insolently mistreated them, and killed them.

Again he sent other slaves, more than the first, and they treated them the same way.

They have treated father and mother with contempt ¹  within you; they have oppressed the foreigner among you; they have wronged the orphan and the widow ²  within you.

So ¹  he sent another slave. They beat this one too, treated him outrageously, and sent him away empty-handed. ²
