Their venom is like that of a snake, ¹  like a deaf serpent ²  that does not hear, ³ 

He causes everyone to stop working, ¹  so that all people ²  may know ³  his work.

When the godly see this, they rejoice, and every sinner ¹  shuts his mouth.

The one who lives ¹  uprightly ²  and speaks honestly; the one who refuses to profit from oppressive measures and rejects a bribe; ³  the one who does not plot violent crimes ⁴  and does not seek to harm others ⁵  –

They brought forward false witnesses who said, “This man does not stop saying things against this holy place ¹  and the law. ² 

The happy sound ¹  of the tambourines stops, the revelry of those who celebrate comes to a halt, the happy sound of the harp ceases.

She said to her husband, “Look, I’m sure ¹  that the man who regularly passes through here is a very special prophet. ² 

The seventh time the servant ¹  said, “Look, a small cloud, the size of the palm of a man’s hand, is rising up from the sea.” Elijah ²  then said, “Go and tell Ahab, ‘Hitch up the chariots and go down, so that the rain won’t overtake you.’” ³ 

My heart ¹  is in turmoil ²  unceasingly; ³  the days of my affliction confront me.

At this also my heart pounds and leaps from its place.

Then from the wicked the light is withheld, and the arm raised in violence ¹  is broken. ² 

He takes his battle position ¹  and shakes ²  the earth; with a mere look he frightens ³  the nations. The ancient mountains disintegrate; ⁴  the primeval hills are flattened. He travels on the ancient roads. ⁵ 

“‘If ¹  she becomes clean from her discharge, then she is to count off for herself seven days, and afterward she will be clean.

“Yes, ¹  the lamp ²  of the wicked is extinguished; his flame of fire ³  does not shine.

Their life’s breath departs, they return to the ground; on that day their plans die. ¹ 

The one who shuts his ears ¹  to the cry ²  of the poor, he too will cry out and will not be answered. ³ 

Where there is no wood, a fire goes out, and where there is no gossip, ¹  contention ceases. ² 

So he ¹  told ²  them, “My Father is working until now, and I too am working.” ³ 

After that a voice roars; he thunders with an exalted voice, and he does not hold back his lightning bolts ¹  when his voice is heard.

Like one who grabs a wild dog by the ears, ¹  so is the person passing by who becomes furious ²  over a quarrel not his own.
